The Battle of Bunker Hill Parade Committee is proud to announce that the Chief Marshal of this year’s parade will be Lt. Colonel John Collier, U.S. Army Ret. John attended Charlestown elementary schools and graduated from English High School. He went on to Bowdoin College where he participated in the Reserve Officers Training Corps and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army. His military career covered twenty years and included two tours of duty in the Republic Of Viet Nam. John is a highly decorated veteran. His many military awards include the Silver Star. This year’s parade will commemorate the 234th anniversary of the Battle Of Bunker Hill and will be held on Sunday, June 14, starting at 12:30 p.m. The parade committee would like to thank the Charlestown Patriot-Bridge for continuing the practice of acknowledging contributions of $25 or more and the filling in of the monument to show the total amount of funds received. There will be a meeting of the Parade Committee on Thursday evening, May 21 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the American Legion Hall, 23 Adams Street. Harvard-Kent Partnership awards scholarships to six outstanding students by Partiot-Bridge Staff

Six outstanding young students from the Harvard-Kent Elementary School won college scholarships from the Harvard-Kent Leadership and Scholarship Partnership at a gala school assembly on Friday, May 8.
Winners of the $1000 scholarships were announced by Harvard-Kent principal Richard Martin and presented by Partnership president Jane Philippi, with proud friends and family members looking on.
The third-grade winners were Micaela Coward, daughter of Felicia and Jason Coward and Wan Yi Lin, daughter of Guo Quiang Lin and niece of Li Ke Lin.
Fourth grade recipients were Nashley Montilla, daughter of Arcendia Cruz, and Xia Lin Cen, son of Delian Su and Min Xia Cen.
Fifth grade winners were Yuen Tung Lee, daughter of Chen Wan Yu and Kam Hei Lee, and Wen Hao Jiang, son of Zhiti Jiang.
The assembly also recognized previous Harvard-Kent scholarship winners Carly Cahill, Anna Chan, Octavia Jones, Breiyah Smalls and Anthony Veras.
Special guests included Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Superintendent of Boston Public Schools Dr. Carol Johnson, Assistant Superintendent for Boston Public Schools Joseph Shea, Academic Superintendent for Boston Public Elementary Schools Victoria Megias-Batista, Richard Stutman, President of the Boston Teachers' Union, Massachusetts State Senator Anthony Galluccio, Lorrie Higgins of Massachusetts State Representative Eugene O'Flaherty's office, and Jarrett Barrios, president of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation.
In four years the Harvard-Kent Partnership has awarded $24,000 in college scholarships to Harvard-Kent students, who are recommended by their teachers and chosen by a special scholarship committee on the basis of their leadership and commitment to learning and hard work.
The Harvard-Kent Partnership was founded in 2005 by Charlestown residents Petie Hilsinger and Jane Philippi to enhance educational opportunities for the children of Harvard-Kent and encourage them to aspire to college.
In addition to the $1,000 scholarships, which are held in trust for the winners, earning interest, until they enter college, the leader-scholars and their families participate in field trips and special Leadership Club activities with the help of Harvard-Kent Partnership board members and Harvard-Kent teachers.
